Last night I drove a few short miles to my sisters house to bring my nephew a birthday treat. I unloaded the kids as usual. This particular night I got Breck out first and she held Kinzlee’s hand and walked to the front door, and knocked. While I was getting Adley out, my sister Angie came through the garage door. She had to run my nephew to drop some things off and would be back shortly. Adley saw the open garage door and went right on in. I grabbed my handful of treats and headed in the garage as well. I saw Kinzlee and Corbin walk in the house right behind me and noticed immediately that Brecklyn was not with them. I ran for the front door fearing my sister had already begun to back out. When I opened the door I heard Brecklyn crying and it was coming from the driveway. My heart dropped… I ran around the bend to find her. She was standing in the middle of the driveway (in the pitch dark) and Angie was walking toward her. Angie had thankfully remembered that Brecklyn was with Kinz and Corb, but didn’t see her go in, so before backing out she had gone to find her. I am so grateful Angie wasn’t in a thoughtless hurry as we so often are. Thank you is hardly sufficient, but thank you anyway, Angie.
When I finally crawled in bed around midnight last night, I had just gotten cozy when I heard my little Brecker-wrecker cry. I immediately went to retrieve her. She snuggled right into bed with me and was back asleep in seconds. I, however; was worlds away from sleep. I held my little baby grateful to be able to smell her, touch her, and kiss her. I just kept thinking how different this night could have been…
I said a prayer aloud thanking God for everyday I have been given with each of my children, and thanking him for reminding me what a gift each child truly is, without taking one from me.
And just because Brecklyn always has to share the spotlight and it’s never ALL ABOUT HER, here goes:
She pulls out her hair-do and takes off her socks and shoes every time we ride in the car. She can enter a room and within three seconds find a binky that no one else on earth knew was there. She carries her blankie with her most of the day and in the mornings she is so attached to it that I have to arrange it between her booster and chair so that she can still rub her face on it while she is eating her breakfast. She is very loving and attentive to anyone who is hurt or sad, unless she is the cause of the hurt or sadness, and then she pretends nothing has happened. She thinks she is ten feet tall and is not afraid of ANYONE bigger than her. She will poke your eyeballs, pinch your cheeks, pull your hair, etc, for no reason at all. She loves to be held and cuddled and will lift her legs in the air when you try to put her down. She loves to be tickled and chased and gives out kisses on demand. At the mention of the word bath she will run to the bathroom and move the stool I sit on next to the tub and wait for me to catch up. Her favorite sign is cookie. She will sign and say, “cookie” for more than an hour…very persistent…and it usually pays off. When she gets excited she yells, “Yeah” in the cutest voice imaginable. She steals food off her sisters tray while looking the other way and pretending like nothing is happening. She laughs when she is caught. She climbs on the counter at least a hundred times a day and gets into everything. No matter how many times I take her down and tell her no, she is not deterred. She will immediately begin the climb again.
I know you will use that determination to do great things Brecklyn. I love you!

Thanks for your blog today, Melissa. I needed that! Those twinners! Aren't they hilarious? We are thinking of splitting Ethan and Jonah up in their preschool class. Jonah rides on Ethan's coat-tails. You know, they start school early here in the East! Love, Megan
call me if you need anything- cell (301)767-6669. We'll be at Aspen Grove June 2-6th and then near Salt Lake the 6th through the 10th. We should get together then!
Freaking crap--is she sitting on the HIGH counter behind your sink? What a stinker. I'm so glad I only have one--he's naughty enough and Mr Destructo hasn't even begun to quit being naughty. I think their ultimate goal is to burn the house down just o see how fast it burns and how bad it smells. Maybe we should burn it to get rid of the mysterious odor.
I'm glad she was not hit by the car! My scary moments usually happen at the store when one runs around the corner and when I get around the corner I can't find them. My heart always flips, but I've always been able to find them quickly. It does make you realize that your kids are pretty wonderful.
So scary! That mom-adrenaline is way more severe than any other kind.
What a cutie!
What a pretty little girl you have there. Thank goodness the Lord keeps our babies safe and gives us the mom intuition!
I hate moments like that. Glad she is okay and nothing happened. What a cutie. She sounds a lot like my little McKayla.
I hate when those scary things happen but are at the same time thankful that I have time to think what life is really about! Your whole family is so cute! I just want to SQUEEZE your babies.
My sister had "The Prophet" song posted on her blog, so I had her post it on mine. Check it out!
That made me cry. I'm so happy she is alright! I love what you said about her, you are seriously an amazing mom. I truly look up to you as a mom, and hope that I can have the patience and love that you have for your kids.
Wow-I would have been freaking out. Good for Angie that she checked everything out. She is such a sweetie and it sounds like Lauren is going to be a lot like her. She is already a little trouble maker. We miss you guys and want to visit.
What a relief! And your thoughts were so well said. I'm going to be thankful for my babies even though they're keeping me awake!
